What Is Your Purpose?

Image
I was not raised with religion, but I was raised in a home of spirituality. While I do respect all religions and those who practice them, I just try and do the right thing and hope that everything will be okay. I wasn’t always successful in choosing the correct path in various matters. It has been easier the older I have become and adds a feeling of certainty that everything is as it should be. Sometimes my spiritual path becomes intertwined with religion. I’m cool with that. My mind is always open, ready to discover new stuff, form my own opinions. Friday was a perfect example of such a thing. I was on my way home from work and took a small detour so I could check out some sprawling farmer’s fields that were turning green. (Those pictures came out fairly good.) After I completed that mission, I hopped in the car eager to participate in happy hour at my own home. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a bell hanging from some kind of contraption. Behind it stood...

Flat Stacey Hits The Showers

Image
When Flat Stacey and I are out on the road, we often spend the night at what’s called a truck stop. These are places that have a building where you can buy everything you need. There are also restrooms and usually a restaurant, sometimes two. Truck stops come in all sizes. Just like there are different stores where you shop, there are different brands of truck stops. Some of the names are Pilot Travel Centers, Flying J, Travel Centers of America and Petro Stopping Centers. Some are owned by individuals and have their own unique name.   Most of the truck stops on the east coast are too small and it can be hard to find a place to park if you are not there early enough.  When I was in school to become a truck driver, I was intimidated by truck stops. One time after class, I hopped in a car with some classmates and we went to a nearby truck stop so that we could have dinner in the restaurant.   Our driver made a wrong turn and we accidentally ended up in the area w...

Flat Stacey's High-Flying Day

Image
Flat Stacey and I have been very busy lately. That’s why there haven’t been many updates. I am saving my trip reports so that Flat Stacey will have a record of all the states, cities and towns we have traveled through together. Now that I have a few minutes, I do want to tell you about Flat Stacey’s completely awesome day last Saturday. Actually, it was completely awesome for a lot of us! The day was based around a friend of mine. Her name is Mary Ellen, but I call her Wing-Girl. I gave her that nickname because when two boys are friends and look out for each other, they sometimes call one another their “Wing-Man.” Since she is obviously a girl, I have to call her what she is, my Wing-Girl.  I became friends with Wing-Girl a few years ago. We have a hangar at the airport where we keep our airplanes. Wing-Girl and her husband occupy the hangar behind us, so they are our airport neighbors. Wing-Girl is ALWAYS at the airport which means when I go there I am forced to ...

Flat Stacey's First Week On The Road

Image
Flat Stacey and I have completed our first week on the road. We were back at the warehouse in Leesport by 4:30 this afternoon. That is unusually early in my line of work and I told her not to get used to it. We drove my truck down the road to our shop, which is about a mile away from the warehouse. There is nothing wrong with my truck, but every so often the mechanics like to check it over so we can be sure nothing happens when we are on the road, far from home.   As we arrived at the shop, I looked at the setting sun and said, “Look at that Flat Stacey, what a fitting end to a good week!” She looked over. All I heard was “Wow.” We pulled to the side of the parking lot so that I could get her picture with that early-evening goodness. Flat Stacey does not yet know that I am a huge fan of sunsets and as such, this is probably what will be the first of several thousand pictures of her with a sunset. There will likely be a few hundred more with sunrises. Both are my favori...
