Bring Back the Wave

When I was just a little kid – unlike the big kid I am today – I remember riding in the shotgun seat of my Father’s car, whichever car he happened to own at the time. I recall how he used to wave at strangers who were walking, running or otherwise sitting idle along the roadside. Because I grew up while watching him wave, I thought it not odd, but the way we should treat passing strangers along the way. The expression “Like father, like Son” applies in this situation, and it’s now part of my standard operating procedure when behind the wheel of my car, or more commonly, my big truck. I spent the better part of the July fourth holiday weekend sitting at home, sidelined by yet another battle with diverticulitis. It’s the third time around the block with this miserable disease of the intestines, and hopefully the last, but either way the “why and how” of that story is best set aside for another story all its own.
