Reflecting on the Future (It’s all he wrote – or is it?)

Memorial day was just another Monday behind the wheel for me. I did not have to leave home till 1 in the afternoon so I was able to enjoy a little extra time at home. I headed down to Chester Pa, to pick up a load that delivered at a Wal-Mart distribution center in Marcy, Ny on Tuesday. This is a really nice trip to run, you just hop on the Northeast Turnpike, all the way to RT81 all the way up into New York. I called it a day at around 8pm in Preble Ny. There is a brand new rest area that just opened in the last year. Other states should take notice of how this place is set up and hurry up and build more. The best thing about it is that there is plenty of big truck parking. In the picture above you can see the building, on the other side there is a whole other parking lot for trucks, so no matter what time you get there, you can always count on a spot being available. Parking can be a real big pain in the butt. If you are not parked in a rest area by like 6 or 7 can you run out of luc...

Re-Learning Free Money

I am standing alone in a truck stop store, stuck again in the aisle containing a massive selection of wheel polish. As much as I try, I am powerless to move; I finally give in to my addiction and pay twenty bucks to “try” a new brand. I’m always in pursuit of something to make my wheels sparklier, for longer, and with less effort. So starving that I might just fall over at any moment. So starving I can’t even find the strength to write anymore. I’ll end up finding the nearest fast food joint and fork over too much money for food that will just make me feel, well, not so good. After that, I’ll patiently await my first heart attack. Looking back it seems like someone else wrote everything that was written in the previous two paragraphs, but I have t...

The Power of Prayer

I’m an avid reader of newspapers. When possible, I try to pick up a local publication so I can get a feel for what’s happening in that specific city or region. Often times I can learn about people and places hundreds of miles from my own hometown. Other times when I’m in a pinch to fuel my thirst for knowledge I am forced to settle for a national paper like USA Today. That publication is fine for keeping up with our nation and world, but it lacks the intimate appeal of the Any-City Press. It’s for that reason alone I hope all the small town newspapers can keep it together and continue on in these hard times as the work they do directly contributes to a regions unique identity. All right, one paragraph done and I’m already sidetracked, let’s get this train-of-thought back on the tracks. Back on October 15th 2009, I was in the upstairs bed of my truck, scanning through a copy of the USA Today before bedtime. One of my favorite stop-and-read parts (of any newspaper really) is the reader c...
