Thinking about “Jason’s Law”

A couple weeks ago I was headed up 95 North through Connecticut and planned to spend the night at one of the service plazas along the way. They are not my first choice and I have written why before, mostly because of ‘Ladies of the Evening’ banging on the door in the middle of the night. The truck stops in that area are mostly jammed packed and it’s usually just easier to pull off into a service plaza- and even that can be tricky depending the location and the hour. I can’t recall for sure but I think it was at the plaza near Bridgeport where this story occurred, but the rest of the story is still clear in my mind because it was a troubling experience. I pulled in and did my usual routine of completing the logbook and other paperwork and then made a trip to visit the little boys room. As I walked towards the building I noticed an earlier model Nissan Maxima parked in the bus parking area directly behind my truck. I observed three people in car and even remember one person in the back s...

Connecticut Ain’t So bad! (Just watch out for the M.I.B!)

I’ve been spending so much time running around Connecticut lately, I even learned how to spell the name without spell checker! The Monday Gigs are becoming a regular beginning of the week run for me. When I first started here, Connecticut was a rarity, if at all- then it slowly became a regularly covered area for our gang in Leesport. The hassles of the state are many. The two major roads, 95 and 84 can be a crapshoot, either you get lucky with smooth sailing, or some type of incident causes a backup so long you’ll need a haircut till you get out, or in my case, a head shave. Finding parking can be flat out non-existent even more so then other areas. Some, not all, people on the road, are complete and total lunatics. Learned a Lesson There! I used to loathe it, but now not so much. At Schneider, I mostly passed through the darn state or stopped to pick up a load up in New Milford where they used to have a little drop yard/operating center. I used to like that place, I could get fuel an...

Before I was a Trucker, I Had To Find a Mom: A Tribute to Mothers Everywhere!

Image
This week I putt-puttin’ along down some random highway when my thoughts turned to the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend. It’s hard to forget it with all the commercial advertising going on left and right, similar to how most Holidays are more about parting with our dollars then remembering the true meaning of the event. Mom’s are a rare breed, yet they are everywhere and deserve to be celebrated for the magic they possess within their souls, and it seems completely unfair we only recognize them one day of the year. MY MOM! For one reason or another, my thoughts to turned to my own Mom, and some distant memories came back, albeit somewhat fragmented ones. I remembered sometime ago when I was just a speck of energy, floating and bouncing about the Universe. I can’t tell you why, but I felt a need to go down to that planet we call Earth, and have a run at the Human experience. Time is different to the Universe, one entire lifetime can be measured in the blink of an eye, but here on earth we ...
