My Wandering Eye is Driven By Technology

Image
My truck woes continue- I drove mine for an entire two weeks after I got it back from it’s injector saucer and cup service (when the mechanics dirtied up it’s innards). The problem this time was that it had lost it muscle entirely, she had less power than that 2005 yucky spare truck I wrote about previously! Not only that, but she also became a bit of a fuel-a-holic, sipping 2 more gallons per mile then before the service. A mechanic I spoke to informed me what the dealer fixed and what was happening now were most likely not related, but nonetheless, I was given the keys to a different spare truck and off she went, back to the sick bay so the Doctor’s could investigate. This time around, I was given a 2009 spare truck, one year newer then my truck, and with only about 63,000 miles on her clock. I figured 2009, can’t be as disgusting as that old 05' I had to deal with, and I was partially right. All it needed was a quick vacuum and perhaps a basic wipe down of the dash and other s...

The Beauty of Baltimore, Sunsets & Socializing

Image
Sunrises, and sunsets seem to be my latest obsession. I have been taking notice to a lot of really cool ones lately and I’m not entirely sure why. They have always been there but I can’t remember seeing such great ones, even as recently the past Summer season- maybe it’s the time of the year that has shown some great starts and finishes to our days. Maybe it’s because I have been taking a lot of pictures with my new camera and notice the picture worthy ones that much more. Sunday evening I was on my home after running a shuttle up to our drop yard in Massachusetts and wanted nothing more then to get back home and fill up my belly and see the kids before bedtime. Unfortunately, the Sun was putting on another spectacular show and I ended up chasing it, just to see if I could get another picture to add to the millions I already have in my collection. Here’s the one I liked best: I think it turned out half decent, and I even learned something from that particular sunset. Sunsets (and Sunr...

A Smartass Learns Lessons From Women's Work! (*)

Before I begin, I’d like to acknowledge the fact that most people get my good sense of humor while others, most likely born without a funny bone in their body, miss it completely. Most of my writings contain some humor, and other times the seriousness of what I am writing about demands it’s absence. Humor is fun and reflects my attitude towards life, both personally and professionally when out on the road, except on matters of being safe. Safety to me is a serious business. In the past I have noticed, whether it is a snipet I write on a social networking site or something longer like the writings on this site, people have sometimes completely missed my humor. I’m sensitive to my readers who don’t understand funny, and realize they might need a little help detecting when I’m not being completely serious. So for this particular writing only, I’ve devised a little aid to help them along. After some sentences within this writing, you may occasionally notice an asterisk immediately after i...

Accidental Blessed Dreams.

My old Olympus digital camera recently passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I consider a camera a necessity out on the road, a tool I can’t live without. I see lots of fun stuff on the road that are picture worthy and also like to carry one in the unlikely even of a serious accident. On my recent Summer trip the Outer Banks, my friend Chris (who is a world famous artist) gave me some pointers on how to take better pictures and I was just getting the hang of it. He also told me it was time to upgrade my camera, so I wasn’t too bummed about it’s passing. I got home late one Friday and knew I’d need to come up with a plan. My biggest hurdle was to figure out how to get a new one without letting my Wife know about my purchase. Whenever I mention spending a nickel or two her favorite one word answer is always “no.” After eighteen wonderful years with her I’ve learned that sometimes I need to come up with a plan to get what I want and deal with the aftermath later. I have extensive experi...

For the Love of Late Night Parking

A few weeks back was a record setting week. Not in miles, but in how many stops I completed for the week, and even for one day. The tally for the week was 37. My daily record was 14. I thought that would be darn near impossible when I learned they were all scheduled for one day, especially with a few miles between the first stop in Auburn, and ending in Rochester, New York. Even more impressive, the weekly total was all done between Monday and Thursday! Certainly I am deserving of some kind of award, more then likely I’ll end up settling for a hefty paycheck that my darn Wife won’t let me spend a dime of. It felt good to pull that week off and it was even better that my last stop Thursday was way up in Massena, New York. When empty I faced a seven hour (give or take a few) drive back home. My best calculations put us back in Leesport at 11am Friday morning which most likely meant when I arrived Friday morning my weekend would begin. No way to tell til I called in the way back after th...

Good to be back

Well, another vacation shot to heck. My family and I along with special friends had a fantastic week in the Outer Banks. Vacations always seem to take to long to come about and then shoot by quickly, almost unnoticed, followed by a return to the daily grind. This was different (except for the take to long to come about part) the week went about at a leisurely pace and I was happy to be back to the so called “grind”. I called my voice mail on the Friday before we departed for home to see what fun would be in store. 10 Stops, Johnson City, NY to Catskill, NY! A good state to be starting back up in my routine. Two weeks later, there have been lots of adventures in between. I’ll try to make a few quick (Time never goes quick when I write) notes on the more memorable ones during the first week back. Strap in, and....here we go: STRANGE AND WELCOMED BACK WARMLY I made my way to the yard on Sunday, anxious to get back to my baby. On the way, on some random back road, some guy in a gold BMW S...
